And, now for our list!
15) Oh isn’t it freezing there? Don’t you want to move?
Yes it can be cold here. But, there sure are a lot of nice people in cold weather. My grandma used to say the cold keeps the weirdos out. Take that or leave it.
14) Are you always at Mall of America?
Going to a giant Mall full of hundreds of people fighting over the same t-shirts is not our idea of fun. Yes it’s a HUGE Mall! Yes, it has a rollercoaster. WE GET IT! We prefer our shopping experiences without crazy crowds, parking atrocities, and crowd induced melt downs.
13) Why do you care so much about the Minnesota State Fair?
You are joking right? I can’t even, with this question. It’s the Minnesota State Fair and everything I mean everything is deep fried. Hours of delicious food, fun, and FRIED FOOD. DID WE MENTION FRIED FOOD!!
12) What is a hotdish?
Just the most delicious thing known to man kind. You can keep your casseroles we will take HOT DISH any day! These often contain delicious tater tots, crushed-up chips, and every other random starch your grandma has lying around her kitchen. And, we are happy to share ours with you any time! In fact, we most likely have one in our freezer right now!
11) Aren’t you guys almost Canadians?
Yes we are “Up North”, but we are every bit as American as everyone else in this beautiful county! USA USA USA! No, but seriously please stop asking us if we are Canadians. We’re on the US Map for crying out loud.
10) Why do you call soda, pop?
It’s pop, not soda, or coke! Unless, the pop you are drinking actually is a COKE. Then by all means call it coke! But, if it is anything else, please, in our house call it a pop!
9) Don’t you mean duck, duck, goose?
No! Anyone a mile away could see that a goose stands out in a group of ducks, making that name obsolete. A grey duck amongst ducks is way harder to find. Making the MN version clearly superior.
8) Can you say Uffda for me?
Oh for cute! You want me to say Uffda for you? Yes we have some catchy phrases we use form time to time around these parts. Stay here much longer and you will find yourself saying the same things, don’t cha know?
7) Aren’t Minneapolis and St. Paul basically exactly the same?
That’s like saying aren’t Canada and the US the same? While both are very close to one another each is very unique and stands out from its counterpart. Yes, they are touching each other, no they are not the same.
6) Isn’t Caribou Coffee just like Starbucks?
Don’t even start with me on this. Caribou Coffee is to us as is the one that will not be name to Seattle. It’s smooth, rich, and carmely coffee flavors make it one of our favorite places to pass the time. And, yes we do love our coffee here. After all, we have to stay warm somehow!
5) Were you friends with Prince?
Yes Prince is the most iconic person in the music industry to come from our state, and believe me Minnesota loves us some Prince. You won’t go too far with the locals without hearing how someones Aunt saw him in the parking lot once, or at a restaurant. However, sadly we weren’t actual friends.
4) Is everyone actually really nice?
Minnesota has a reputation for being supremely nice. “Minnesota Nice” doesn’t however, mean that we are all nice all the time. It means that we are polite, we avoid confrontation to the max, and we will go above and beyond to make sure you are well fed. However, don’t take us up on our acts of niceness and you are likely to be the talk of the town for the foreseeable future.
3) Isn’t Jesse Ventura your governor or something?
Yes for a brief stint we did actually elect a Professional Wrestler as the Governor of our state. But, those were the late 90s and early 00s things were weird and we’ve moved onward and upward.
2) [Refer to any MN Town] “Oh, is that by the twin cities?”
Yes Minneapolis/ St. Paul are huge. But, there is a whole state out there that gets no recognition. From places like Two Harbors near Duluth full of harbor life and scenic walkways, to Rochester with the Mayo Clinic, and Southern Minnesota with it’s amazing scenery lakes, amish communicates, theaters, and so much more.
1) What do you mean your family doesn’t have a cabin on the lake? I thought everyone from MN did!
Yes we are the land -o- lakes and home to 11,842 lakes and I can see how you would think that! But, no sadly not everyone has a home on the lake. And, if you are one of those people who loves the outdoors, lakes, rivers, and trout streams. Midwest Outdoor Resorts has everything you need and more. It will be your home away from from home all across our great state.
